Description
Magnolia trees bear different types of blooms, and each bloom form represents a species with a number of cultivars or varieties. The family Magnoliaceae has a history long and varied, full of varieties that have naturally altered over time, and those that have been cultivated for look, hardiness or beauty. Magnolia blossoms are pure white, mauve to rosy pink, or variations of purple. One of the most unique things about the magnolia is that it is a very old flower. There are fossil specimens that can date the magnolia back to nearly 20 million years ago. This flower is hardy and because it has been around for so long, it has had to adapt to things that a lot of other flowers have not. Magnolias are considered to be some of the most primitive flowering plants, with fossil remains dating back tens of millions of years.
